Artist Comments: War of the Outcast is a fantasy/sci-fi book written by Michales Warwick Joy. It's a quite enjoyable book, and one I had the pleasure to do the cover for. It was not
only fun (and included getting to read a good book), but I'm immensely satisfied with
the resulting piece. While it was conceived to work with the title overlapping a portion
of the artwork, I think it works really well on its own as a still-life. In addition, the
piece gave me a chance to study the structure of a katana and the excuse to read Miyamoto
Musashi's Book of Five Rings.
