Artist Comments: The Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (ASFA) contacted me about creating a poster they could
give out at conventions in order to attract new members. They asked for something in the
vein of Uncle Sam in his famous "Uncle Sam Wants You" pose, but otherwise I had pretty
free reign. So I played around and settled on this guy, some weird combination of Ming
the Merciless and those brainiac guys from the original
Star Trek show.

2004 Chesley Award nominee, "Contribution to
ASFA" category. The Chesleys are awarded by
