Artist Comments: This is one of the interior illustrations in Groovy Tubes: Mythical Beasts. This is a basilisk. The mythology of basilisks is confusing and entangled with the cockatrice. Basilisks are sometimes portrayed like cockatrices, and sometimes are portrayed as serpents of various sizes (such as in the Harry Potter movie) or six-legged lizards. As with the leviathan, I decided to stay away from yet another dragon/snake/lizard interpretation. Instead, I took the chance to add a bit of variety to the bestiary by using the cockatrice version.
